Summary

CELLS GROWN ON THE SURFACE OF CYTODEX-1 BEADS CAN BE USED DIRECTLY FOR FREEZING WITH THE MICROCARRIER ITSELF. THIS FACT NOT ONLY SIMPLIFIES THE PROCESS OF FREEZING BUT OFFERS SEVERAL OTHER ADVANTAGES TOO. CELLS ARE NOT EXPOSED TO TRYPSIN (EDTA), REPEATED PIPETTINGS AND CHANGES OF PH. THIS RESULTS IN AN IMPROVED RECOVERY AFTER STORAGE IN LIQUID NITROGEN. HANDLING OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF CELLS BECOMES MUCH EASIER THAN BY THE PREVIOUS METHOD.
