Summary

A NOVEL MIXED VALENCE COPPER OXIDE, OXYGEN DEFICIENT PEROVSKITE, HAS BEEN ISOLATED. THIS TETRAGONAL COMPOUND IS ISO-STRUCTURAL WITH THE SUPERCONDUCTIVE PSEUDO-TETRAGONAL O THIS SEMI-METALLIC OXIDE EXHIBITS A NARROW RESISTIVE TRANSITION AT 75 K ; BELOW THIS TEMPERATURE IT REACHES A ZERO RESISTANCE. RATHER HIGH CURRENT DENSITIES (D = 10 A/CM2 ) CANBE APPLIED TO THIS COMPOUND WITHOUT CHANGING ITS SUPERCONDUCTIVE CHARACTER AT 70 K. A STRUCTURAL MODEL IS PROPOSED FOR THIS OXIDE, AND IS COMPARED TO THE STRUCTURE OF THE OXYGEN DEFICIENT PEROVSKITE.
