Conductors for the LHC project.

Author(s) : GRUNBLATT G.

Summary

CERN (European organization for nuclear research) commissioned 5 manufacturers from all over the world for the construction of superconducting cables for the main dipoles and quadrupoles of the LHC project (accounting for over 90% of the project's needs in terms of superconducting materials); Alstom is providing approximately 50% of the amount required by the project. The presentation gives an overview of the main features of the planned internal and external cables, the main difficulties in the project, and summarizes the present situation at Alstom.
