Summary

THE AUTHORS HAVE DEVELOPED SIMULATION SOFTWARE OF A CONTINUOUS DISTILLATION PROCESS OF A BINARY MIXTURE CYCLOHEXANE/N-HEPTANE, USING A HEAT PUMP WITH MECHANICAL COMPRESSION OF THE LEADING VAPOURS. THEY STUDIED, IN PARTICULAR, THE INFLUENCE OF THE OPERATING PARAMETERS OF THE COMPRESSOR ON THE ENERGY COST OF THE SEPARATION. THE COMPRESSOR OF THE PILOT UNIT IS CENTRIFUGAL WITH VARIABLE SPEED AND IS FITTED WITH A BY-PASS IN ORDER TO SUPERHEAT THE VAPOUR TO AVOID ITS CONDENSATION. AT A GIVEN ROTATIONAL SPEED, THE BY-PASS RATE CAN VARY BETWEEN TWO LIMITS ; OUTSIDE THESE LIMITS, CONDENSATION IN THE COMPRESSOR IS NOTED OR AN INSUFFICIENT REBOILING RATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COLUMN.
