Modelling and simulation of multi-stage absorption systems.

Author(s) : GROSSMAN G.

Summary

Renewed and growing interest in multi-stage absorption systems has created the need for reliable and effective simulation programs. A user-oriented computer code has been developed for simulation of absorption systems in a flexible and modular form, making it possible to investigate various cycle configurations with different working fluids. The user conveys the cycle to the computer by specifying the different componenets and their interconnections, the given operating conditions and the working fluids. Based on this information, the program calculates the temperature, flowrate, concentration, pressure and vapour fraction at each state point in the system and the heat duty at each component. The code has been employed successfully to simulate a variety of absorption cycles including some rather complex ones, such as triple-effect lithium bromide-oxygen chillers and oxygen-ammonia GAX heat pump.
