MODELLING OF FLUCTUATIONS OF TWO-PHASE FLOW IN A HORIZONTAL TUBE (SLUG FLOW TRANSITION).

Author(s) : HIHARA E.

Summary

IN A HORIZONTAL EVAPORATOR TUBE, WAVY FLOWS ARE OBSERVED, WHICH ARE TRANSIENT PERIODICAL FLUCTUATIONS. IF THE GAS AND/OR LIQUID FLOW INCREASES FROM SEPARATED FLOW, THE FLUCTUATIONS INCREASE AND DEVELOP IN THE LIQUID SLUG. TWO TYPES OF PHENOMENA ARE EXPLAINED. THE FORMER IS THE TRANSITION FROM WAVY FLOW, THE LATTER THE SLUG FORMATION DUE TO REFLECTED UPWARD WAVES. THE LIMIT OF THIS TYPE ON THE DIAGRAM IS LOCATED CONSIDERABLY LOWER THAN THAT OF THE FIRST PHENOMENON.
