Modelling of shell and tube heat exchangers with finite element method.

Author(s) : HAFNER J.

Summary

Fluid flow and heat transfer in shell and tube heat exchangers were considered. Velocity field was treated with the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations. They were modified with the theory of porous media represented by a tube bundle. Fluctuations were treated with the partial differential equation of kinetic energy of turbulence. Temperature field was expressed by the partial differential equation of energy, while heat exchange was expressed by the velocity field and dimensionless equations. The system of partial differential equations was solved with the finite element method. A twenty-node parallelepiped was used. The results of measurements were compared with models from the literature and with those of the developed mathematical model. The visualized fluid flow was compared with the calculated one.
