MULTIZONE CONDENSERS: TABULATE DESIGN DATA TO PREVENT ERRORS.

Author(s) : RUBIN F. L.

Type of article: Article

Summary

MOST CONDENSERS OPERATE WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEAT TRANSFER OCCURRING SIMULTANEOUSLY IN DIFFERENT ZONES. THE AUTHOR DIVIDES THESE INTO (1) DESUPERHEATING AND CONDENSING, (2) DESUPERHEATING, CONDENSING AND SUBCOOLING, (3) CONDENSING AND SUBCOOLING. AS THE MEAN TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES AND OVERALL COEFFICIENTS OF HEAT TRANSFER ALTER FOR EACH ZONE, DESIGN WHICH LUMPS THESE TOGETHER IN ANY WAY IS BOUND TO BE INACCURATE. AN EXAMPLE IS GIVEN FOR A CONDENSER HANDLING PENTANE MIXTURES FROM A DISTILLING COLUMN SHOWING ERROR DISCLOSURE WHEN MORE DETAILED DESIGN DATA IS USED. D.W.H.
