Summary

Four options of the capacity and internal volume ratio (Vi) control of a screw compressor are presented, analysed and compared. These include: 1) single slide capacity control, 2) parallel slide, 3) tandem slide control and 4) newly developed system with a single Vi-slide and variable speed drive. The last system leads to the best part load efficiency values among all discussed options. The European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio values measured on a newly developed single V(i)-slide screw compressor for ammonia chiller applications are presented.
