Summary
The TORE SUPRA superconduction toroidal magnet consists of 18 coils in mutual contact of total mass of 185 tons. Each coil is made up of three distinct concentric parts, the 80 K shields, the 4.5 K thick casings and the 1.8 K windings. These concentric enclosures are subjected to mechanical constraints during transients, cooling down or warming up. The contraction of materials is significant between 300 and 80 K, the cooling down speed of each part must be controlled within acceptable limits for the safety of the whole magnet structure. The problems associated with these transients but also the process control method implemented are presented in the paper.
