New developments in display cases and refrigeration systems.

Author(s) : LIKES P. W.

Summary

The supermarket industry has made great strides in identifying and making use of new HFC refrigerants such as R404A, along with the objectives of reducing refrigerant charge and annual leakage rate. The new decentralized systems are good examples of equipment that have accomplished these objectives. With the latest designs, energy has also been reduced. It is anticipated that the development of decentralized or distributed systems will continue. The development of small, high efficiency compressors will provide the opportunity to reduce refrigerant charge and leakage rate even more and new developments in refrigerators and refrigeration systems in the future will allow the supermarket operator to merchandise a wide variety of food products, while taking into account the important issues of temperature control, energy requirements, and environmental factors.
