Using advanced modelling techniques to reduce the cold spillage from retail display cabinets into supermarket stores.

Summary

A project is currently looking at the problem of "cold feet" in supermarkets, created by the spillage of cold air from refrigerated display cabinets onto customers' feet. Three supermarkets have been involved in tests. Measurements have been taken during summer and winter for two sites from each supermarket. Temperatures as low as 8.6 °C were measured at floor level in the centre of refrigerated aisles. A CFD model of one of the supermarket stores was generated in order to predict temperatures at floor level.
