New developments in hydrides for chemical heat-pump applications.

Summary

Hydrides currently used in chemical heat-pump applications have poor mechanical integrity and are difficult to activate. The mechanical alloying technique of ball-milling has been studied as a means of alleviating the problems noted above by modifying the microstructure of the materials. Experiments carried out on iron-titanium show that both amorphous and nanocrystalline powders can be obtained. Furthermore, the properties of the latter, in the presence of hydrogen, show interesting characteristics for chemical heat-pump applications.
