Summary
Renewed interest in the use of ammonia as a refrigerant has attracted the attention of authorities concerned with both internal and external safety measures. Legislation will be accentuated in connection with verification and implementation of plants. TNO have initiated procedures based on the risk calculation from which rules may be developed and applied to existing and new ammonia refrigeration installations. The article gives a brief account of the procedures and the criteria upon which they are based.
