New refrigerant leak detection system.
Nouveau système de détection de fuites de frigorigène.
Author(s) : GRABON M.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
The main idea of invention is to create a specific mode of operation (Leak detection cycle) in which by transferring refrigerant from evaporator to condenser with closed exv and compressor running we can determine amount of refrigerant in evaporator (time needed to empty evaporator). The time of this cycles gives an "image" of refrigerant present in a refrigeration circuit. By comparing this time to reference time (with known charge) gives indication of amount of refrigerant charge in a system. The "starting point" of each of those phases can be "created" and repeated during normal operation of the unit (outside conditions will not have significant influence on results). First estimation suggests that accuracy of this method can be as good as 5% which is today not achievable with currently existing leak detection methods.
