Summary

Taking a typical office building in Shanghai as an example, analyses the influences of air changes, indoor heat sources, ventilation temperature difference control mode, floor and orientation on cooling and energy saving effects of night ventilation. The results show that a better cooling effect can be achieved if the air changes of 5 to 10 h-1 can be reached. The night ventilation can reduce significantly the influence of indoor heat sources on the opening load of air conditioning, and remove the indoor heat gain of 15 to 25 W/m2. Night ventilation could further increase energy savings if the temperature control modes are optimized when the total heat gains is at the low level. The heavier the indoor cooling load, the better energy saving effect of the night ventilation is.
