Noise identification and reduction in small hermetic refrigeration compressors.

Author(s) : BROWN M. E.

Summary

The attenuation of 3 decibel was established as the minimum goal. Since the highest amplitudes were at 1/3 octave bands of 400, 500 and 3150 hertz, it was determined that the source(s) should be identified and the component(s) modified to attenuate the levels at those frequencies. The paper presents the identification techniques and modifications resulting in the reduction of sound levels emitted from fractional horsepower hermetic refrigeration compressors.
