Summary

MAINTAINS THAT NOISE AND VIBRATIONS IN HVAC INSTALLATIONS SHOULD BE TACKLED AT SOURCE. IN AN AIR HANDLING SYSTEM THIS MEANS ONLY A MINIMUM OF PRESSURE LOSS IN THE SYSTEM, WHILE PERMITTING THE ELIMINATION OF SEVERAL SOUND ATTENUATORS. VIBRATION DAMPING IN A BUILDING MUST COMMENCE WITH SLIGHT VIBRATIONS AT SOURCE. THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY USING PROPERLY-BALANCED MACHINERY OR BY INSTALLING EXTRA MASS IN THE MACHINE. TRANSFER OF VIBRATION TO THE BUILDING STRUCTURE CAN BE REDUCED BY USING SUITABLY SELECTED VIBRATION ISOLATORS.
