Non-absorbable gasses motor-less purge system for absorption heat transformers.

Type of article: IJR article

Summary

Non-absorbable gasses in absorption heat pumps are well known to significantly hamper their performance. It is hard to prevent the presence of non-absorbable gasses; therefore, regular purging is required. Publications describing earlier work on purge systems for absorption heat transformers (or type II absorption heat pumps) are relatively scarce. The goal of this work has been to design and install a motor-less (no pumping motor added to the system other than that already existing as part of the AHT) purge system that continuously collects and evacuates non-absorbable gasses from our laboratory scale 10 kW LiBr-H2O absorption heat transformer. This system was built, installed and tested. The measurements indicate that the system performs well and successfully removes non-absorbable gasses.
