Summary

This paper adopts a numerical method to predict the frost accumulation quantity and frost density of a plate-fin-and-tube heat exchanger. The course of frosting on fins is simplified to a quasi-stable problem for convenience. In every time step the process is considered to be stable and the data obtained, the frost thickness and the temperature of the frost surface are used to determine the boundary conditions in the next time step. In the study, the disturbance of airflow rate caused by the frost layer is taken into account. The calculated results are in very good agreement with the experimental results.
