Numerical simulation and analysis of the refrigerant bed behaviour using FLUENT software.

Summary

Active magnetic regenerative refrigeration (AMRR) cycle is essential nowadays in magnetic refrigeration to increase the temperature span between the hot and the cold sources. A practical model of prediction and study of the performances of a refrigerant block of regenerative active magnetic refrigerator was developed within G2elab with FLUENT. This numerical tool is a general-purpose computational fluid dynamics code which allows heat and mass transfers' simulations. It consists of a mesh generator (Gambit) and a solver (FLUENT). From a thermal and fluidic point of view, this software allows very complete simulation in terms of numerical modelling of the AMRR cycle, taking into account all the convective and conductive terms. The model developed can be used as a reference model to test different analytical or other numerical models and approaches.
