Summary

Cryo-compressed hydrogen (CcH2) storage is a novel hydrogen densification method, but the temperature rise during the CcH2 filling process can significantly decrease the final hydrogen storage density. Given the current lack of research on CcH2 filling, a detailed filling model in the type III vessel using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is established. The temperature rise during the filling process under the adiabatic condition and the 77 K cooling condition is simulated. Subsequently, the effects of mass flow rate, filling temperature, and initial pressure are systematically analyzed. The results show that during the CcH2 adiabatic filling of 10 g/s, the average temperature rise reached 41.18 K, and the hydrogen filling amount was only 81.19 %, indicating that the impact of filling-induced temperature rise cannot be ignored. Therefore, a temperature rise mitigation strategy that combines reduced mass flow rate to extend the cooling duration with constant-pressure cooling filling is proposed. By adopting the above filling strategy, the filling result of 82 K and 50 MPa can be successfully achieved within a relatively short time, facilitating the practical application of CcH2.
