Numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a perforated baffle channel.

Author(s) : FAN X. W., WANG Y. M., YANG R. L., et al.

Summary

The fluid flow and heat transfer features for a rectangular channel with the staggered perforated baffles which holes are arranged in stagger and parallel way have been studied numerically when Re number was changed from 1000 to 15 000. The numerical results show that Nu number for the stagger-hole baffle in the same rectangular channel is 1.3 times more than that of the solid baffle channel, and is also higher than the parallel-hole baffle. A new parameter r is defined, which is equal to the hole area to baffle total. It was found that the higher the r is, the larger the improvement of the Nu number will be. On the basis of the calculation, friction factor of stagger-hole baffle channel may be greater or less than that of parallel-hole baffle channel depending on r.
