Summary

THE AUTHORS REPORT MAGNETIZATION MEASUREMENTS ON Y(BALA)CUO SOLID SOLUTIONS FOR VARIOUS CONCENTRATIONS OF BARIUM AND LANTHANUM. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE SEMICONDUCTING DOWN TO LOW TEMPERATURES. THEY HAVE STUDIED THE MAGNETISM OF THE COPPER SPINS OVER A WIDE TEMPERATURERANGE (BETWEEN 4 AND 250 K T HIGHER OR EQUAL TO 20 K THE MAGNETIZATION FOLLOWS A CURIE-WEISS LAW. THE MEASUREMENTS REVEAL A MAGNETIC TRANSITION AT 11.3 K, BELOW WHICH TEMPERATURE THE FIELD COOLED MAGNETIZATION AND ZERO FIELD COOLEDMAGNETIZATION DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY. REMANENCES AND RELAXATIONS ARE OBSERVED FOR T LOWER THAN 11 K. THESE DATA ARE EVIDENCE OF THE PRESENCE OF COMPETING INTERACTIONS AND OF A SPIN GLASS PHASE.
