On the analysis of compact heat exchangers working as evaporators.

Summary

In this paper, a model for the analysis of compact heat exchangers working as evaporators is presented. It has been included in a code for the selection of this sort of heat exchangers and the design of refrigeration systems. The authors are mainly interested in this type of heat exchanger used in air-conditioning and refrigeration applications. Following a previous work carried out with compact condensers, the evaporators are discretized in cells and analyzed following the path imposed by the refrigerant flowing through the tubes. The compact heat exchangers considered in this case are formed by finned multiport tubes with microchannels through which the refrigerant flows. Some experiments are performed and the data obtained are used to evaluate the results provided by the model. The working fluid used in the analysis is R-410A. The secondary fluid is air. The facility is briefly described and some conclusions are drawn.
