Summary

AN ANALYSIS IS PRESENTED FOR HEAT TRANSFER THROUGH AN ARRAY OF EXTENDED SURFACES CONTAINING ANY NUMBER OF FINS. BY TREATING EACH FIN IN THE ARRAY AS A FINITE ELEMENT WHOSE CHARACTERISTICS ARE TO BE DETERMINED BY THE SOLUTION OF A ONE-DIMENSIONAL SINGLE FIN PROBLEM, THE ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM IS REDUCED TO THE SOLUTION OF A SYSTEM OF ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS. EXPLICIT EXPRESSIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE ELEMENTS OF THE COEFFICIENT MATRIX. THE APPLICATION IS ILLUSTRATED WITH AN EXAMPLE.
