THE AUTOTRANSFUSION METHOD USING AUTOLOGOUS FROZEN BLOOD DURING OPEN HEART SURGERY IS DESCRIBED, AND RESULTS ARE GIVEN AND DISCUSSED. STORAGE OF LARGE QUANTITIES OF AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD IN THE LIQUID STATE IS DIFFICULT AND FREEZING IS THE ONLY WAY TO COLLECT A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY. THAWED RED CELLS CAN BE SAFELY USED IN EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION.
