Summary
By utilising the enthalpy current of spent air together with cooling compressors that can be switched over to heat-pump mode, it is possible to achieve energy savings in passenger coach air conditioning. Particularly favourable conditons for using spent air energy can be found in passenger coaches with active insulation, with the floor-ceiling mantle system representing a relatively simple technical implementation, whereby the spent air is used in winter to raise the temperature of the floor surface and in summer to lower that of the inner ceiling panelling. As well as saving energy, this also has a positive influence on thermal comfort in the passenger area.
