Summary

VARIOUS TYPES OF THERMAL STORAGE SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN STUDIED AS METHODS TO SOLVE THE ELECTRICAL UNBALANCE IN KOREA. BUT MOST OF THOSE ARE FOR HOT WATER STORAGE AND THIS STUDY INVESTIGATED ABOUT THERMAL STRATIFICATION IN THE ICE STORAGE TANK. SINCE THE STRATIFICATION IN THE ICE STORAGE TANK IS THE MAJOR EFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ICE STORAGE SYSTEM,THE GOAL OF THIS STUDY IS TO FIND OUT THE DESIGN AND OPERATING PARAMETERS WHICH IMPROVE THERMAL STRATIFICATION IN THE ICE STORAGE TANK. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS SHOW THAT THE EFFECTIVE STORED THERMAL ENERGY RATIO CAN BE EXPRESSED IN A SIMPLE FORM OF FROUDE NUMBER.
