Performance characteristics of air cycle heat pumps working with moist air.

Author(s) : YANAGISAWA T., FUKUTA M., OGI Y., et al.

Summary

In the study, an air cycle heat pump water heating system using air as a working fluid was investigated, and ways to improve its performance are discussed. As one of the ways, the authors propose to use moist air instead of dry air and its performance characteristics were examined theoretically. As a result, the heating capacity and the expansion power increase with the increase of the humidity ratio at the compressor inlet, which leads to an improvement in the cycle coefficient of performance. Heat pump water heating system working with moist air can constitute a promising application of the air cycle.
