Performance of a frozen food display cabinet with potassium formate as secondary refrigerant.

Summary

A new secondary refrigerant, Freezium TM, based on potassium formate, has been developed. Compared to other secondary fluids this coolant has a low viscosity, while the thermodynamic properties are of the same order. For that reason it is a most promising alternative secondary refrigerant from an energy point of view and especially for low temperature applications. Tests have been carried out on a frozen food display cabinet with a secondary loop. The influence of the flow rate and the inlet temperature of the coolant has been investigated with the temperature of the frozen food as criterion. The test results are presented and briefly discussed.
