THE PAPER EXAMINES THE REASONS WHY WATER COOLING TOWERS SHOULD BE PERFORMANCE TESTED AS PART OF THE GENERAL COMMISSIONING PROCEDURES FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING PLANT. IT ALSO DESCRIBES THE INSTRUMENTS USED TO MEASURE TEMPERATURE AND WATER FLOW RATES AND OTHER QUANTITIES, AS WELL AS THE STANDARDS FOR COOLING TOWER TESTING THAT ARE IN GENERAL USE IN THE COUNTRY. THE CONCLUSION IS REACHED THAT MANY MAN HOURS AND DOLLARS CAN BE SAVED BY HAVING A PERFORMANCE TEST ON A WATER COOLING TOWER CARRIED OUT.
