This paper speculates on the future for air conditioning and refrigeration (the generic term, "refrigeration", is meant to include air conditioning, heat pumping as well as the science of keeping perishables and other items cold). The author looks at the factors that might affect market demand, how our concern about energy and the environment might influence decisions, the growing concern about indoor environmental quality, and how outside factors, like the growth of the Internet, might affect the future of air conditioning and refrigeration.
