Phase structure and magnetocaloric effect of short high temperature annealed LaFe(13-x)Si(x) system compounds.

Summary

In this study, phase formation with NaZn(13)-type structure of LaFe(13-x)Si(x) system compounds (x= 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5) by high-temperature annealing at 1573 K for 1 hour have been investigated. The results demonstrate that coarse dendrites are observed in the microstructure of as-cast LaFe(13-x)Si(x) samples and 1:13 phase is formed after short high temperature annealing. The magnetic entropy change of 17.56 J/kg.K for LaFe(11.6)Si(1.4) was obtained at Tc=190 K under the magnetic field changes of 0 to about 5 T.
