Summary

USING THE CLUSTER VARIATION METHOD AND THE NEAREST AND NEXT NEAREST NEIGHBOUR INTERACTIONS, IE J AND J' BETWEEN OXYGEN AND OXYGEN, OXYGEN AND VACANCY, AND VACANCY AND VACANCY ON THE COPPER-OXIDE PLANE OF YBACUO(7-), THE PHASE DIAGRAMS WERE OBTAINED FOR J'/J = 0, 1/4, 1/2 AND 1. THEORETICAL RESULTS SHOW THAT THE DIAGRAM OF J'/J = 1/4 CAN WELL EXPLAIN THE ORTHORHOMBIC-TETRAGONAL TRANSITION IN YBACUO(7-). THE POSSIBLE PHASES AND PHASE TRANSITION IN YBACUO(7-) ARE PROPOSED.
