Physical mechanisms of large magnetocaloric effect.

Author(s) : TISHIN A. M.

Summary

The paper presents the author's analysis of the physical mechanisms of the large magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in the room temperature region. Special emphasis is focussed on such parameters as magnetic moment, purity, the value of exchange interaction, volumetric magnetostriction, shift of temperature of magnetic phase transition under the action of a magnetic field, and the influence of a magnetic field on the heat capacity. Benefits of an utilization of the value of effective MCE for a comparison of different magnetocaloric materials are explained.
