Summary

SONGOLD PLUMS IN COMMON WITH OTHER PLUM CULTIVARS SUFFER FROM INTERNAL BREAKDOWN WHICH RESULTS FROM PROLONGED STORAGE AT A SINGLE TEMPERATURE. THE INCIDENCE OF THIS BREAKDOWN HAS BEEN REDUCED IN OTHER CULTIVARS BY DUAL TEMPERATURE STORAGE AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED WITH THE SONGOLD VARIETY. THEY RIPENED MORE QUICKLY UNDER THE DUAL TEMPERATURE REGIME, BUT QUALITY DIFFERENCES OTHER THAN INTERNAL BREAKDOWN WERE SMALL. G.R.S.
