Summary

THE AUTHORS HAVE DEVELOPED A METHODOLOGY FOR PREDICTING THE NUMBERS OF REPLACEMENT UNITS REQUIRED FOR THE HVAC INDUSTRY IN THE YEARS UP TO 2005. THE PREDICTIONS INCLUDE ALLOWANCES FOR CHANGES IN FUEL STRATEGIES AND REFRIGERANTS AS WELL AS THERMAL UPGRADING OF BUILDINGS. BECAUSE OF THE HIGH BUILDING RATES IN THE 1950S AND 1970S, THE REPLACEMENT MARKET IS SEEN TO TAKE ABOUT HALF THE OUTPUT OF HEATING AND COOLING UNITS IN THE YEARS AHEAD. SUCH PREDICTIONS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR MANUFACTURERS PLANNING FUTURE PRODUCTION. D.W.H.
