Planning of HVAC systems in relation to the contamination risk from microorganisms by aerial transmission.

La progettazione degli impianti di climatizzazione in relazione al rischio di contaminazione da agenti a trasmissione aerogena.

Summary

The possibility of infecting people through the contamination of HVAC systems with pathogenic microorganisms, such as anthrax, has dramatically brought to the forefront the issue of the hygienic control of these plants. Beginning from knowledge of pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses in general, transported through the HVAC plants, the authors discuss the biological characteristics and action of pathogenic microorganisms, typical typologies of HVAC plants and relative characteristics in relation to the risk of contamination, the possible actions, active and passive, that can be undertaken in relation to the control of the contamination for existing plants, and finally, the predictable repercussions on the planning, construction and installation of HVAC plants.
