Predicted mean vote (PMV)-based train air-conditioning control system.

Author(s) : FUNAKOSHI S., MATSUO K.

Summary

To improve the temperature control in passenger trains, the authors developed an air-conditioning system that controls indoor air temperature according to a thermal comfort index, the PMV. Mean radiant temperature, air humidity, and outdoor temperature are monitored in order to calculate the set temperature at which the PMV index becomes zero. The set temperature is maintained by using the fuzzy control method to adjust the operation of the air-conditioner compressors. Results obtained with a fuzzy control simulator show that the proposed control system keeps the indoor PMV near zero, where the thermal sensation of the passengers is expected to be neutral.
