Summary

In this paper, the authors propose a calculation model of the ice melting process applicable to practical uses. This model has taken into account mass and heat balances in the ice-rich layer, and estimated quantitatively the effects of porosity, permeating water velocity in the layer and side wall of an ice storage tank. Outlet water temperature calculated by this model agrees well with those obtained. Moreover, the thermohydraulic behaviour in the ice-rich layer has been able to be analysed qualitatively in the ice melting process.
