Summary

THE LACK OF INFORMATION CONCERNING THE SUBLIMATION PROPERTIES OF PURE ICE LEADS THE AUTHORS TO AN EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH OF THE PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE A SIMPLIFIED MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF SUBLIMATION IS PRESENTED IN THE PAPER. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED IN A WIND TUNNEL USING ICE AS MATERIAL, WERE PROCESSED TO DETERMINE AN EMPIRICAL RELATIONSHIP FOR THE SUBLIMATION FLUX VS AIR TEMPERATURE, RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND VELOCITY. RELATIONSHIPS CORRELATED WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA AND COULD BE USEFUL TO EVALUATE THE SOURCE TERMS IN ANY SYSTEM EQUATIONS DESCRIBING THE PHENOMENON.
