Performance of a solar assisted heat pump using photovoltaic evaporator.

Author(s) : PEI G., JI J., HE H. F., et al.

Summary

A novel solar assisted heat pump system using photovoltaic evaporator (PV-SAHP) has been proposed in this study. PV-SAHP system has a superior COP because solar irradiate directly on the evaporator and hence has a higher photovoltaic efficiency according with evaporating cooling on PV cells. Performance tests were conducted as the condensing temperature rising on an experimental rig in Hefei, China. The dynamic performance of this PV-SAHP system was analysed and the influencing factors were identified. Results show that the COP of the heat pump was able to reach 9.3 and the average value was about 6.3. The average photovoltaic efficiency was around 13.2%. The highest overall COP p/t, taking into consideration both the photovoltaic and thermal efficiency, was about 14.8 and the average value was 9.0.
