Summary

THE AUTHOR HAS EXPERIENCED OVER 50 COLD STORE INSTALLATIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND HAS OBSERVED MANY PROBLEMS PARTICULAR TO THAT AREA WHICH HAVE ESCAPED THE ATTENTION OF EUROPEAN SUPPLIERS AND INSTALLERS. THESE RANGE FROM INADEQUATE PACKING OF INSULATED PANELS, ALLOWING RADIATION DAMAGE TO OCCUR, TO DESIGN FAULTS IN THE POSITIONING OF EQUIPMENT. MAJOR PROBLEMS OCCUR WITH THE EXCESSIVE AIR TEMPERATURES AND EFFECTS OF SOLAR RADIATION, OTHERS ARE CAUSED BY DUST WHICH ENTERS EVERYWHERE UNLESS RIGID PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN. THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES MANY OF THESE PROBLEMS AND OFFERS EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS. D.W.H.
