Summary

ONE BATCH OF HARDWOOD CUTTINGS OF ROOTSTOCKS WAS STORED FOR 30, 48, 66, 84 AND 102 DAYS AND ANOTHER FOR 24, 36, 48, 60 AND 72 DAYS. THE LATTER BATCH WAS PLACED FOR 6 DAYS AT 291K (18 DEGC) EVERY 12TH DAY. HALF OF EACH BATCH WAS TREATED WITH IBA 2,000 PPM. THE TRIAL IS BASED ON THE SUPPOSITION THAT A CORRELATION EXISTS BETWEEN CHILLING AND ROOTING. IN STONE FRUIT ROOTSTOCKS, THE TREATMENTS PROVIDING UNINTERRUPTED STORAGE GAVE BETTER PERCENTAGE OF ROOTING THAN THOSE PROVIDING ALTERNATE STORAGE. IBA NOTABLY IMPROVED THE ROOTING OF STONE-FRUIT ROOTSTOCKS. RESULTS AFFIRM THAT COLD STORAGE OF CUTTINGS IN PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION.
