Summary

THE SEEDLINGS OF FOREST TREES CAN BE STORED IN A COLD STORE AT 272.5 TO 274 K (-0.5 TO 1 DEG C), PACKED OR UNPACKED, FROM NOVEMBER UNTIL MAY. IT IS ADVISABLE TO STORE THE SEEDLINGS SEPARATELY. AT HIGHER TEMPERATURE THE PLANTS SPROUT, THEIR RESPIRATION IS HIGHER AND THE DANGER OF FUNGUS CONTAMINATION INCREASES. MOST OF THE FORESTRY SEEDLING SPECIES CAN BE STORED THROUGH LONG MONTHS IN A VIABLE STATE, IN POLYETHYLENE OR IMPREGNATED PAPER BAGS. PRACTICALLY, POLYETHYLENE HINDERS THE LOSS OF WATER BUT NOT THE EXCHANGE OF OXYGEN AND CARBON DIOXIDE GASES.
