Summary
Novel refrigerant fluids have been developed and are being evaluated for use in air conditioning and heat pumping. The fluids discussed in this paper are based on the low GWP molecule HFO-1234yf, or 3,3,3,2-tetrafluoropropene. These candidate fluids have superior environmental properties, as compared to the widely used commercial incumbent AC and heat pump working fluids, and can reduce the net carbon foot print that results from indoor climate control. Measurements have been made in a variety of AC and heat pump systems to verify and validate actual cooling, heating, and energy consumption performance of these candidate fluids. In this paper, results from this measurement work will be reported and discussed. Base line comparisons are made with respect to the incumbent fluid, R410A.
