Summary

Ex vivo propidium iodide fluorescent staining provides a new, rapid and inexpensive approach to define the reliable viability of organs subjected to ischemia reperfusion injury. This method could be clinically applied as a non-traumatic viability assay when part of tissues irrelevant to graft are taken immediately after brief normothermic ex vivo perfusion with non-toxic propidium iodide staining solution.
