Summary

WHEN USING ICE AS A COOLANT, THE THERMAL STORAGE EFFICIENCY CAN BE IMPROVED BY OBTAINING SOLIDS FREE OF AIR BUBBLES. ALSO IN THE DESALINATION OF SEAWATER BY FREEZING, THE OBJECTIVES OF DESALINATION CANNOT BE ACHIEVED IF CONCENTRATED SEAWATER IS INTERSPERSED IN A FROZEN SOLID. MOREOVER, IN ICE PLANTS, WHITE TURBID ICE IN WHICH AIR BUBBLES ARE CONTAINED IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRACKING AND MELTING. IT IS, IN ADDITION, UNDESIRABLE FROM THE HYGIENE POINT OF VIEW. IN THIS PRESENTATION, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES AN EXAMPLE OF MANUFACTURING ICE IN WHICH THE PURIFICATION OF THE CRYSTALS IS ACHIEVED BY AN AUTOMATIC AIR BLOWING SYSTEM.
