QUANTUM DIFFUSION HAS BEEN REVEALED IN SOLID DEUTERIUM. THE EVIDENCE FOR ITS EXISTENCE IS PROVIDED BY CALORIMETRIC STUDIES ON DEUTERIUM CONTAINING 2. 8% PARADEUTERIUM. THE CHARACTERISTIC TIME OF CONFIGURATIONAL RELAXATION 630 MORE OR LESS 50 H (T = 1.65 K) IS IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE PREDICTIONS MADE IN TERMS OF THE OYARZUN AND VAN KRANENDONK RESONANCE-CONVERSION MODE THE CONSTANT CONVERSION RATE IN DEUTERIUM IS FOUND TO BE 0. 00048/HOUR.
